Following options
are available for career with IPR and then with RF Group@IPR.
The Institute's research programmes in fundamental
and applied aspects of Plasma Science and Technology and also our Tokamak
Programme depend on talented and motivated men and women joining us. In
accordance with the government of India rules, our recruitment efforts
for permanent and long term positions are always well publicized through
advertisements in newspapers, employment newsletters and posters
displayed at other Scientific and Academic Institutions.
For appointment at senior levels, applicants are
encouraged to visit the Institute to describe their work through seminars
and discussions with our faculty members.
Recruitments for entry level positions are through
the Technical Trainee Programme (TTP). A large number of our Engineers
and scientists have been selected and trained under this scheme. Upon
successful completion of the one year of rigorous training they have been
offered employment at Scientist/Engineer SC level. N.B. Recritment under
this scheme is discontinued since Sept 2002. It may be re-instituted in
the future depending on the Institute's requirements.
A few recruitments at Scientist/Engineer SC or SD
level are also made periodically through specific advertisements for
these positions. Young candidates having the necessary academic
qualification and a few years of work experience in the specified area
are selected on the basis of interviews.
Exceptional students with a BSc (Physics) degree or
a technical diploma are recruited as Scientific/Technical assistants.
From the applications received in response to advertisements, the
short-listing/selection is made on the basis of written tests and
interviews.
Other opportunities:
Postdoctoral Fellowships (of one year duration,
usually extended to another year) are available to fresh PhD's and recent
PhD's with some Postdoctoral experience. Interested candidates may send
their applications any time for consideration.
Scientists and Engineers who have expertise relevent
to any specific ongoing project at IPR are invited to work at IPR under
the Visiting Scientist/Engineer Programme for a period usually not
exceeding one year. The emoluments depend on the experience and the level
of the appointment.
Every year IPR selects a number of students with
M.Sc in Physics and a desire to pursue a career in Physics, to work for
their PhD degree in Physics These scholars are supported by IPR with a
competitive stipend, accommodation and other facilities. They are
expected to complete their PhD thesis work in 5 to 6 years. Admission to
the IPR's PhD Programme is through the Joint Entrance Screening Test
(JEST) which is organised by a group of leading Research Institutions in
the country. Candidates who perform well in this exam are called for
interviews at IPR. Every year this test is widely publicized during
October/November and is conducted all over India during the month of
February.
Training opportunities for students:
IPR wishes to encourage students (B.Sc/M.Sc/BE/ME)
to do short term projects for augmenting their college learning and
exploring R&D as a career option. These programmes are quite popular,
and consequently, only a limited number of students from each institution
are accepted.
·Project
Trainee Programme: Students whose college degree curriculum requires
a project or practical training to be undertaken can approach IPR through
their college authorities. Usually only meritorious students from nearby
institutions are accepted. No stipend or accommodation or travel costs
etc from IPR is allowed. Only in case of Master Degree students and whose
schedules allow them to undertake fulltime projects of long duration,
trainees from distant locations are accepted and provided with
accommodation, if required. All applicants should be highly recommended
by their institutional authorities.
·Physics
Summer School Programme: Every year, during June-July, IPR provides
an opportunity to M.Sc (I year) Physics students from all over India to
spend their summer vacation period doing Physics. The students learn
about plasma, Tokamak and related general Physics through lectures,
projects and interacting with our faculty and other PhD students. All
participants receive a stipend from IPR. The number of candidates
selected from each institution is very limited and is based on the performance
of the past students recommended by the institution. This programme is
announced during the month of March.
·Sponsored
Trainee Programme: Students who have been selected by other agencies
(like the Indian National Science Academy, Plasma Science Society of
India etc) for any scholarship or training and wish to work at IPR may
apply to us with the permission of the sponsors. If accepted, the
students will be provided the required facilities.
